100,000 Audience Members Enthused by KBS’s ‘New York Korea Festival’

KBS held a special event entitled “New York Korea Festival” at New Overpeck Park in New Jersey, USA on October 9 at 7 pm to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Korea’s joining of the UN. Many top musicians including star K-Pop singing groups such as Dong Bang Shin Ki, 2PM, SHINee, 4 Minute, Beast, Sistar, and G.Na, and veteran singers such as Patti Kim, In Soon Yi, soprano singer Hong Hye Kyung, baritone singer Ryeo Hyun Ko, Korean classical musicians Kim Young Im and Jang Sa Ik, and Seol Woon Do, Tae Jin Ah, Kim Tae Woo, and Maya appeared as guest members during the event.

The chairman of the board of KBS, Sohn Byung Doo, said, “We have prepared this event for our Korean people who have immigrated to a foreign country and overcome many difficulties. I am very proud of Korea, which has been ranked among the top 12 economic powers after breaking away from poverty in the past and produced the Secretary General of the UN. I sincerely want you to enjoy our ‘New York Korea Festival.’”
In addition, the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon, said during the reception, which was held at the event and hosted by the MC Hwang Soo Kyung, “Korea had been aided by the UN in the past, but now we are in the leading position to realize what the UN has been pursuing. The status of Korea has been elevated by remarkable activities of many K-pop singing groups. And KBS has played an active part in preparing the ‘New York Korea Festival’ to celebrate the 20th anniversary of our joining of the UN. I appreciat
e your efforts.”
In addition, many important guests including Korean-American politicians, the Consulate General in New York, members of the Korean community in New York, and the Korean Produce Association participated in the event as guest members, and the park where the event took place was completely filled with approximately 100,000 audience members. The large size of the audience who came from New Jersey, New York, and other states in America revealed the rising popularity of K-Pop among Americans.
The “New York Korea Festival” that heated up the autumn of New York was broadcast on October 22 at 10:10 pm on KBS 2TV.
